2023 Life Update

Photo of myself

Hello my name is Jai-Shirelle Marshall. I am the owner of this blog and portfolio. I haven’t been writing on here like I should because life has been lifing. Here is a 2023 life update. Hopefully I will have more to write later. I need to figure out how I will restructure this blog if I decide to do that at all.

I have still been doing some things with my UX career, but now things have gotten interesting because of the layoffs. I’m still looking for a job though. I’m persevering and am going to meet my goals.

Before that these past few years have been really trying. Between my dad getting sick and dying, me having to take care of him, my mom getting breast cancer and me having to take care of her, plus some weight loss and some weight gain, a bout of depression, and a near death car accident… things have been a lot.

Mom is cancer free though, and I have made some more career moves despite everything going on. Like I said above, I am persevering. Check below for my career update. I’ve done so much in the past few months.

Professionally I am a UX designer, tarot reader, and former content creator and fashion industry professional with over ten years of experience. I also helped clients develop their wardrobes and designed clothing for both personal and wholesale customers.

Additionally, I took pictures and videos for various designers and assisted in producing two fashion presentations for Simon Malls while working backstage as a stylist and dresser at several fashion shows around Charlotte. As a fashion journalist, my videos and blog posts have had over 40,000 views.

Now I am transferring my creative skills into UX design. Recently, when I concluded the Google Coursera UX Design Professionals Course, I finished three projects for my portfolio. I also finished a fourth project as part of the MMC mentorship with Microsoft. During the mentorship my design team worked with the UX research team to user test, ideate, and prototype a health and wellness app for young adults and minorities affected by the pandemic.

I have been relearning design, learning about design thinking, empathy from a UX point of view, user research, and user testing. I have also learned how to use tools like Miro, Figma, and Adobe Xd.

Most recently I collaborated with Roadmap to produce an #AI story generator for professionals either looking for a new job or looking to pivot into tech. Our team used automation and no code tools like Softr, Zapier, and Airtable to streamline the process.

I am looking for remote/hybrid/or in the office ux design positions! I do consider myself junior or entry level, so if anybody knows of any ux job leads please let me know.
