Fibroids: My Open Myomectomy Journey

This summer has been a journey. I recently found out that I had fibroids, so I got an open myomectomy. But…let me back up. Before my diagnosis, I struggled with heavy periods, fatigue, and I felt like my life was on hold. I went to my local gynocologist, and she was a godsend. Thank you Dr. Sharon Aldrich at Prisma Health. She was able to diagnose me and start me on a regimen of iron infusions leading up to my surgery. She also prescribed me some iron pills. After 5 infusions, my hemoglobin went from a 6 to a 9.5. Ladies get your iron checked!
